Supervisor Training

Georgia's Conservation Partnership hosted the 2011 Supervisor Training at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, GA - August 19-20.  Attendees received updates from GACDS, the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.  The group heard from UGA Landscape Architecture graduate Roger Wells about his senior project to design a site plan for the Conservation Education Center.  New supervisors were briefed on district law, supervisors' duties, and getting involved with their districts, while veteran supervisors reviewed useful technology tools for conservation districts.

The training adjourned on Friday with an evening program on Georgia's beginning farmers and a viewing of the movie "Grow!", which features twelve farms operated by a new generation of farmers.  Filmmakers Anthony and Masterson attended the film viewing and those in attendance discussed the challenges in Georgia over connecting beginning farmers with experienced mentors.

2012 Supervisor Training information will be posted when dates are available.
