Supervisor Training is conducted each year in August to give Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors the information they need to serve their communities more effectively. Sessions are held for new supervisors to inform them of their responsibilities to their districts and Georgia law as it pertains to districts. Veteran supervisors have the opportunity to hear updates from conservation agencies and GACDS leaders.
Georgia's Conservation Partnership (GACDS, Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, & Natural Resources Conservation Service) hosted the 2009 Supervisor Training on August 21st and 22nd at The Blue Ridge Comfort Inn and Suites. In addition to presentations from each of the partners, the training included sessions on the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop, UGA's outreach program for agribusinesses, and nonprofit management. The Farm Bill pointed out opportunities for supervisors to get conservation on the ground in their districts. Friday night's smoked trout supper and the tour of Mercier Orchards on Saturday were enjoyed by all.
The 2008 Supervisor Training agenda focused on woody biomass utilization and bioenergy in Georgia. An afternoon tour to the award-winning Macon Water Authority and a forestry demonstration site allowed attendees to study bestmanagement practices in the two industries. On Saturday morning after the new and veteran breakout sessions, participants had the choice of attending an address on the new Farm Bill or an update on erosion and sediment control.
