In appreciation of supervisors' committment to the protection of Georgia's natural resources, GACDS presents a Supervisor of the Year award at the Annual Meeting. The award recognizes supervisors' exemplary achievements, leadership, and service to GACDS, NACD, and their community.
Jim Ham, Towaliga Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor, received the Supervisor of the Year award at the 2009 Annual Meeting. Jim is a 5th generation farmer in Smarr, where he and his brother operate Sleepy Creek Farm, a beef cattle operation. Jim was one of the first in his area
to implement a 319 project on his farm to protect the soil and water resources and improve wildlife habitat. Over the years, Jim has promoted conservation across the state and nation by serving as Chairman of the Towaliga SWCD, president of GACDS for three years, past president of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, a charter member of Two Rivers RC&D Council, on he Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
