Hall of Fame

Purpose

To recognize individuals who have made unusual and extraordinary contributions to soil and water conservation in Georgia. To preserve the unique history of achievements of the leaders of the conservation movement of Georgia.

Nominations

Any person, living or deceased, who has made unusual and extraordinary contributions in the field of conservation may be nominated for the GACDS Hall of Fame.  All nominations must be submitted by a current GACDS member.  Nominations must be submitted on a standard Nominating Form signed by the GACDS member making the nomination.  The Nominating Form may be supplemented with up to three pages of additional documentation using 81/2 x 11 paper, front only with 12pt or larger font size.  In addition, three (3) letters of support for each nomination will be accepted. 

Guidelines for Selection

Nominees for the GACDS Hall of Fame shall be considered based on the following criteria:

1)  Demonstration of truly outstanding leadership in the field of soil and water conservation.

2)  Made unusual and extraordinary contributions to the protection of Georgia’s soil and water resources.

3)  Has received recognition of his/her peers in the field of conservation.

4)  Made noteworthy accomplishments in fields other than conservation.

5)  Possesses impeccable character.

 Judging

Completed nominations will be judged by the GACDS Executive Committee.  (Members of the Executive Committee are not eligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame.) A maximum of two individuals, per year, may be inducted.  It is not mandatory that the Executive Committee select an honoree each year.

Recognition

Honorees selected shall be recognized in appropriate ceremonies at the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors.  The honoree will be presented with an appropriate display, recognizing the honoree’s induction into the GACDS Hall of Fame.  Honoree’s names will be added to the permanent GACDS Hall of Fame plaque, which shall be placed at the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission State Office in Athens.
