About GACDS

Our mission:  To protect, conserve, and enhance Georgia's soil and water resources through the promotion of conservation best management practices.

The Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors (GACDS) has a long history in conservation education and preservation of our state’s natural resources.  GACDS, established in 1943 to support the efforts of Georgia’s soil and water conservation districts, incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2000.  GACDS is composed of approximately 370 soil and water conservation district supervisors.  Our members work closely with partners to direct state and federal funding to maximize conservation benefits.  GACDS educates citizens about the importance of wise stewardship by hosting workshops, conducting field days, and distributing resource materials. 

The Articles of Incorporation outline the following objectives of the Association:

  1. To exchange information relating to the administration, operations, and welfare of soil and water conservation districts and to encourage cooperation among such districts.
  2. To work with and support the State Soil and Water Conservation Commission.
  3. To promote water quality protection as a goal in all soil and water resource programs.
  4. To promote retention of prime farmland for producing food and fiber.
  5. To encourage the interest and activities of civic and other organizations in soil and water conservation, erosion and sediment control, and water quality protection, inclduing such work along public highways.
  6. To aid in securing and coordinating assistance from all available sources on local, state, and national levels.
  7. To provide aid and guidance in programs for prevention and control of soil erosion and conservation of soil and water resources.
  8. To advise legislative groups at local, state, and national levels on needs for conservation legislation.
  9. To conduct an educational and informational program promoting resource conservation.
